Weatherly

Find a city's weather, check the next 24 hours and seven days, and save favorite locations in the browser.

What it does

Weatherly uses Next.js 15 with Open-Meteo forecast and geocoding data. The browser handles the interactive dashboard, and API routes normalize provider responses. There are no user accounts or weather API keys.

Decisions

Keep provider requests behind API routes
A server route normalizes Open-Meteo current, hourly and daily values into one response, instead of making the UI manage separate provider formats.
Ignore outdated searches
The search waits briefly after typing, cancels superseded requests, and keeps the active city tied to the latest weather response.
Store preferences locally
Favorites, units, theme and selected city are kept in localStorage. Visitors can use the app without signing in.
Embed a map instead of building one
An OpenStreetMap iframe supplies location context; users can open the full map or copy coordinates if they need more detail.

Screens

Current weather data and supporting details.
Search suggestions from the geocoding endpoint.
Current weather on a narrow screen.
Forecast sections stacked for a mobile viewport.
